How To Catch A Green Wave
Unbroken green waves are the holy grail of surfing. They’re the ones that you see in the movies, the ones that make your heart race and your adrenaline pumping. But they’re also the hardest to catch
Here’s how to catch it:
Step 1: Position yourself correctly.
Find the peak of the wave and position yourself about 5 to 7 meters away from it. If the waves are bigger, you might need to take a few meters extra.
Step 2: Paddle at a 90° angle to the wave.
Keep your eyes on the wave and paddle hard, making sure to keep your weight forward.
Step 3: Paddle until you feel the wave lift you.
Once you feel the wave start to lift you, increase your paddling speed and lower your head. This will help you to gain more speed and stay in front of the wave.
Step 4: Make sure you have enough speed before you pop up.
If you’re not sure if you have enough speed, give yourself a few extra paddle strokes before you pop up.
Step 5: Pop up and look where you’re going.
As you pop up, keep your eyes on the horizon and arch your back like a banana. This will help you to maintain your balance and control your board.
Catching an unbroken green wave is a challenge, but it’s also an incredible experience.
If you’re up for the challenge, give it a try!
